At age 77, Sue decided to get her first tattoo. She held an election on socials, and the rainbow peace sign won out over "DNR" (!). So she went to her friend and tattoo artist Chuy's salon in Madison, Tatuajes Raza (with Kelli, Piper, and Mark as witnesses), where he worked his magic. It's stunning. And it means the world to this aging hippie chick. It's never too late.
We were really affected by the murder, most likely assassination, of Charlie Kirk, and though we disagree with his politics, we are saddened beyond words by his death. And by what is happening in, and to, America right now. We are just two women sitting on a porch, trying to bring some positivity in the sh*tstorm that surrounds us. And because it's only real if you post it, we're sharing a few minutes of our thoughts about it with you. Rest in peace, Charlie Kirk. No one deserves to be shot for what they believe.
Kelli and Sue talk with Greta about her book and following in the footsteps of her father to become a police officer and then on to activist. LIFE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BADGE is available on Amazon.
Why there was no new episode on August 20 ... we got stood up! A guest, old friend of Sue's (or so she thought) never showed up to record. So we had to delay the new episode by a week. But we ended up with Wes Minton, US Army Veteran, who was great! Episode 14: Troops in the Streets & "Toeing the Line": A Veteran Reflects on Military Service is up now.
PFLAG's Kathy Halbrooks told us that she had been inspired to work with LGBTQ+ allies because of the vile antics of the Westboro Baptist "Church"—and we decided to take a deeper dive into this hate group masquerading as a religious organization. So we did this Porch Talk video extra.
When commenters went negative on Olivia Hill and the transgender community, we had to respond.
More of our special Pride episode interview with Olivia Hill, Nashville Metro Council Member and deep red Tennessee's first elected transgender lawmaker. She delves into her body changes, lost male privilege, and the female brain.
Kelli tells a terrifying (yeah, right) tale of vandals, vandals, I say, trying to destroy her pride porch in the middle of the night ... or maybe not.
